In recent years, with the introduction of new energy vehicles, many regions in China have gradually started using new energy electric vehicles, although they have not yet achieved full coverage. The number of such vehicles is already quite substantial. Alongside this, the industry chain for new energy, particularly charging piles (EV charging stations), has emerged quietly.
Unlike fuel-powered vehicles, electric vehicles, as the name suggests, require charging, and charging piles serve this purpose effectively.

According to data, by the end of August 2018, there were nearly 280,000 public electric vehicle charging piles across China. Approximately half of these were AC (Alternating Current) charging piles, while the remaining were DC (Direct Current) and AC/DC hybrid charging piles, with a ratio of roughly 3:2. Overall, the growth in the number of public electric vehicle charging piles has shown a steady upward trend. Compared to the number at the end of July this year, there was an increase of nearly 4,000 charging piles, and compared to September last year, the number increased by nearly 8,000 charging piles.
When analyzing the construction of public electric vehicle charging piles by province, municipality, or autonomous region, it is evident that Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong lead with 41,646, 35,310, and 34,628 charging piles respectively. Jiangsu follows closely with 28,954 charging piles, while Shandong is fifth with 20,288 charging piles. Zhejiang, Tianjin, Hebei, Anhui, and Hubei rank sixth to tenth. Except for Hubei, which has over 8,000 charging piles, all other provinces and municipalities have more than 10,000 charging piles.
Nationally, the construction of electric vehicle charging piles in plateau regions is generally low, particularly in remote areas where the total number of charging piles does not exceed two digits, making it one of the regions with relatively fewer charging piles. This is mainly due to the fact that many charging piles in plateau regions are unable to operate normally. Therefore, charging piles need to enhance their ability to withstand the harsh environment of plateau regions.
It is understood that there are currently about 16 domestic electric vehicle charging pile companies that have achieved significant accomplishments. Each of these companies has constructed more than 10,000 charging piles, making them some of the more influential brands in the industry. However, the domestic electric vehicle charging pile market is still immature. While these companies have built many charging piles, their operational status is not ideal, and some companies have even withdrawn from the market. The future winner in the electric vehicle charging pile market remains uncertain.
