Is it necessary to install fast charging at home charging stations

For consumers of new energy electric vehicles, building their own home charging stations is indeed very convenient for pure electric vehicle users, especially those who have private parking spaces. Not only do they not have to worry about charging stations being occupied, but they can also achieve a stop and charge driving experience. Moreover, applying for new energy meter charging fees is also very affordable, and the charging costs are very cost-effective.

At present, the mainstream household charging piles are mainly around 7kW. If this power is connected to a 220V power grid, the current through the wire is 32A, and the selected wire line is generally not less than 6 square millimeters, which will have stricter requirements for the installation of the line. Fortunately, most users use household charging stations during the low electricity consumption period at night, which actually has a more positive aspect for reducing the load on the power grid. The slow charging time and gentle charging characteristics of household charging stations to a certain extent ensure the safety of household charging stations and also help extend battery life.

In actual charging, slow charging is relatively safe, and the connection standards are also more in line with the specifications of the household power grid. Will the addition of fast charging to the household charging pile bring some potential problems?

Of course, based on the household AC charging station, a three-phase 380V DC household charging station configuration has been introduced, with a peak charging power of 24kW (actually 20kW) or higher for DC fast charging. Many people are concerned that these high-power DC charging piles will affect residents' electricity consumption. Whether old power lines can withstand such high currents is also a concern for many property management companies in old residential areas. In addition, if it is an emergency car that needs to be charged, it is relatively slower to charge the car at a fast charging station outside, and it increases the risk of electricity consumption in the home or community. It is better to charge the car at an external charging station for about half an hour to fully charge it and drive it home with peace of mind. So choosing a 7kW household charging station is still more suitable for car owners.
