When the charging station is powered, it can be divided into DC fast charging and AC slow charging according to the size of the charging power, the length of the charging time, and the type of current output by the charging station. So, do you know the difference between these two charging methods?

These two charging methods each have their own advantages and disadvantages. For pure electric vehicles, the maintenance cost of batteries is relatively high. Therefore, it is recommended to use slow charging as the main method and fast charging as a supplement when using charging mode, in order to maximize the service life of the battery.

Fast charging refers to high-power DC charging. It uses the charging interface of a DC charging station to convert AC power from the grid into DC power and transmit it to the fast charging port of an electric vehicle, where the electrical energy directly enters the battery for charging. It can quickly charge to 80% in half an hour. Slow charging refers to AC charging. It is the charging interface of an AC charging station, which inputs the AC power from the power grid into the slow charging port of an electric vehicle. The AC power is then converted into DC power through the internal charger of the vehicle and input into the battery to complete charging. In a typical vehicle, it takes 6 to 8 hours to fully charge the battery.

Advantages and disadvantages of fast charging and slow charging:

1. The advantages of fast charging:

The occupation time is short, and the DC charging voltage is generally higher than the battery voltage. It is necessary to convert AC to DC through rectification devices, which puts higher demands on the voltage resistance and safety of power battery packs.

2. Disadvantages of fast charging:

Fast charging will use high current and high power, which will have a significant impact on the battery pack. Charging too fast will result in virtual power. The fast charging mode is much larger than the slow charging mode. High temperature can directly cause accelerated aging inside the battery, shorten its service life, and in severe cases, lead to frequent battery failures.

3. The advantages of slow charging:

Charging the device battery at low speed with almost no virtual power. In addition, the charging current for slow charging is usually less than 10 A, with a high power of 2.2 kW, which is several times smaller than the 16 kW for fast charging. This not only reduces heat and battery pressure, but also helps to extend the battery's lifespan.

4. Disadvantages of slow charging:

The charging time is very long, usually taking several hours to fully charge the battery pack.

When charging, attention should be paid to:

1. Charging time

Correctly grasp the charging time. Usually, the charging time for batteries is about 10 hours. Try to avoid overcharging as much as possible. When preparing for travel, charging should be arranged in advance to avoid power outages during driving.

2. Charging frequency

Even if the driving distance is not far, the vehicle should be charged daily. In this way, the battery is in a shallow cycling state, and the service life of the battery will be extended.

3. Storage

Avoid power outages during storage. When the battery is idle, it should be charged once a month to better maintain its normal condition. If you don't use the car frequently, start the car.

These two charging methods each have their own advantages and disadvantages. For pure electric vehicles, the maintenance cost of batteries is relatively high. Therefore, it is recommended to use slow charging as the main method and fast charging as a supplement when using charging mode, in order to maximize the service life of the battery.
